Family history

William Henry Barker was born in 1856 at Darlington, he was baptised on 29th September 1856 at St Cuthberts, Darlngton, he was the son of the late John Barker (Sergeant 11th Hussars) and Harriet Barker née Gould.

his father John Barker was born in 1811 at Aldbrough, he died in 1889 aged 78years, his mother Harriett Gould was born in 1825 at Thorpe, Suffolk, they were married on 14th May 1854 at St Marylebone, Westminster they had 5 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census William Henry is living at 16 Oak Street, Carrington, Nottingham, he is shown as being 54 years of age, sigle and an ex policeman, he is living with his widowed mother Harriett 87 yrs and his sister Mary Bell 50 yrs of age a housekeeper,

Military history

Private William Henry Barker served with the 18th Provisional Company Royal Defence Corps, he died on 17th November 1916 at the Nottingham General Hospital. He is buried at St John's Church, Carrington.
