Family history

George William Simpkins was born in 1897 he was the son of John Henry Simpkins a joiner and Alice Hannah Simpkins née Litchfield of 'The Cottage' Steedman Avenue Mapperley Plains Nottingham.

His father John Henry was born in 1872 at West Bridgford, his mother Alice Hannah Litchfield was born in 1874 at Belper, they were married on 14th May 1895 at St James's church, Nottingham, they had a further son John Henry born 1899 at Sneinton.

In the 1911 census the family were living at 69 Lichfield Road, Sneinton, John Henry 39 yrs is a packing case maker, he is living with his wife Alice Hannah 37 yrs and their 2 children, George William 14 yrs a millers clerk and John Henry 12 yrs a scholar.

Military history

Sergeant George William Simpkins enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the Royal Engineers and was attached to 6th Corps HQ. He died of a fractured skull which was caused accidentally on 26th August 1919 he is buried at Cologne Souther Cemetery.
