Edwar Oldersaw was born on 29th August 1898 at Bilborough, he was baptised on 20th September 1898 at Bilborough he was the son of Mark Edward Coxon Oldershaw a bank clerk and his second wife Eliza Wood of Mapperley Hall Drive, Nottingham

His father was born in 1862 at Draycott his mother Ann Harris was born in 1860 at Nottingham, she died in 1892 aged 32 yrs, they were married on 2nd June 1881 at Strelley, they had children 4 children his siblings were James b1884, Louisa b1886, Herbert b1889 and Ida b1891.

His father went on to remarry Eliza Wood (born 1862 at Trowell) on 22nd November 1894 at Trowell, they had 3 further children, Harry b1896 Kathleen b1897 and Edward b1898

In the 1911 census the family are living at 4 Mapperley Hall Drive, Mark Edward is 51 yrs and is a bank clerk, he is living with his second wife Eliza 48 yrs and his children, Louisa 25 yrs no occupation, Herbert 22 yrs an assistant coal agent, Ida20 yrs a governess, Harry 15 yrs a scholar, Kathleen 14 yrs a scholar, Edward 12 yrs a scholar, also living with the family is a female servant, Mary Ellen Hubbard 23 yrs a general domestic servant.

Military history

Private Edward Oldershaw enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 8th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he died on 25th December 1917, age 19. he is buried at Staglieno Cemetery, Genoa, Italy. Plot I, Row A, Grave 29.

The 11th Battalion of the Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment) served in Italy during World War I from November 1917 to September 1918. They participated in battles like Asiago and the Battle of the Piave. In September 1918, they moved back to France in September 1918.

His brother Lieutenant Mark Oldershaw enlisted on 28th October 1914 at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, giving his address as Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada, his next of kin was his wife Kate he served with the 28th battalion Canadian Infantry.

He was killed in action on 15th September 1916, his name ic commemorated on the Vimy Ridge Memorial.
