Family history

William Mycroft was born on 1st November 1896, he was baptised on 19th August 1896 at Shirland, Alfreton, he was the son of Herbert a cordwainer and Anna Mycroft née Swain of 16 Dunstan Street, Netherfield, Nottingham.

His father Herbert was born in 1862 in Shirland, Alfreton, his mother Annie Elizabeth Swain was also born in 1862 at Shirland, Alfreton, they were married on 12th September 1886 at Pentrich, Derbyshire, they went on to have 7 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family were living at 16 Dunstan Street Netherfield Nottingham, Herbert 49 yrs is a cordwainer, he is living with his wife Annie 49 yrs and their children, Matthew 19 yrs a green grocer, William 14 yrs a scholar and Herbert 11 yrs, also living with them are 2 boarders.

Military history

Private William Mycroft enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Netherfield, he served with the 1st battalion South Staffordshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 29th March 1917 at the 44th casualty clearing station and isburied at Euston Road, Cemetery, Colincamps, France.
