Family history

Tom Harry Danby was born in 1888 at Cambridge he was the son of the late Henry Samuel Danby a shepherd and Kate Emily Danby née Harborrow (later Hutchinson) of Lincoln.

His father Henry Samuel was born in 1846 at Flintoft, Lincolnshire he died in 1892 aged 46 yrs, his mother Kate Emily Haborrow was born in 1859 at Boston, they were married in 1881 at Boston, Lincolnshire. they had 7 children.

His mother went on to remarry Joseph Hutchinson (1874-1909) in 1897 at Boston, they had a daughter Agnes Bertha Winfred Hutchinson born 1901.

In the 1911 census the family was living at 33 Station Road, Ilkeston, his widowed mother Kate Emily 52 yrs and her children, Harry 23 yrs general labourer and Charles 19 yrs a general labourer.

Tom Harry married Jane Annie Lemon (born 13th July 1894) in 1914 at Mansfield, they lived at 3 Emery Road, Gedling, they had a daughter Winifred Emily born 8th May 1916.

Commencing 11th March 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military history

Private Tom Harry Danby enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Gedling, he served with the 2nd battalion South Staffordshire regiment, he was killed in action on 12th August 1917 he is buried at Gorre British and Indian Cemetery, France.
