Family history

Ernest Allen was born in 1872 at Sheffield, he married Jane Shore (born 18th July 1875) in 1898 at Nottingham, they lived at 3 Kenrick Road Mapperley Nottingham.

They had 4 children, sadly 1 was die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 72 Citadel Street, Radford, Ernest 35 yrs is a plasters labourer, he is living with his wife Jane 33 yrs a tailoring finisher (it is noted on the census that she is totally deaf.) and their children John William 12 yrs a scholar, Cyril 8 yrs and May Elizabeth Anne 6 yrs of age.

Commencing 18th November 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and five pence a week at this time she was living at 86 Mial Street, Radford,

Military history

Private Ernest Allen enlisted at Nottingham,he served with the 16th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action, on 16th April 1918, during the attack at Wytschaete, near Ypres, Belgium. He is buried at Brandhoek New Military Cemetery No.3, Belgium. Plot 2, Row O, Grave 12
