Royce Wilson was born in 1892 at Nottingham, he was the son of William Edward a general dealer and Kate Wilson née Bush a lace clipper and the brother of Kate, Lily, Grace and May Wilson.
His father William Edward was born in 1865 at London, his mother Kate Bush was born in 1866 at Nottingham, they were married in 1882 at Nottingham, they had 7 children, sadly 2 were to die in infancy or early childhood.
In 1901 they lived at 16 Pump Street Sneinton Nottingham.
In the 1911 cenus his parentsand siblings are living at 23 Manchester Street, Nottingham,
William 46 yrs is a general dealer, he is living with his wife Kate 45 yrs and their children, Grace 16 yrs a lace clipper, May 13 yrs an errand girl.
In the same 1911 census Royce was boarding in Navenby, Lincolnshire he was 19 yrs single and a collier, he was living with William Pillsworth 58 yrs an inn keeper and his family
Royce was the husband of Edith Holland (born 31st December 1893) they were married on 5th August 1912 at Nottingham, they had children, William born 30th March 1913 Royce born 25th June 1914 and Adelaide Wilson born and died 1916 they lived at 10 Warren Cour , Nottinghamshire.
Commencing 9th April 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of (unreadable on pension record card) .
Private Royce Wilson enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment he died on 11th February 1917 aged 25 yrs of accute bronchitis, he was buried at Calais Southern Cemetery, France. Grave Reference: Plot F Row 3 Grave 17
Nottingham Evening Post notice (abridged) 16 February 1917: ‘Wilson. Died of wounds in hospital February 11th, Private Royce Wilson, only son of Kate and the late William Wilson, age 24. Mother, sisters. Husband of Edith Wilson. Wife and children.’
