John Ashley Burton was born on 4th November 1891 at Great Yarmouth, he baptised on 22nd March 1900 at Great Yarmouth the son of the late William John a bricklayer and Margaret Alice Burton (later Osborn) née Smithson,

William John was born in 1860 at Great Yarmouth, he died in 1910 aged 50 yrs Margaret Alice Smithson was born in 1865 at Stratton Strawley, Norfolk they were married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Yarmouth registration district, they had 2 further children, Ann Florence born 1886 and William John born 1888.

In 1911 John Ashley was boarding with relatives Arthur and Annie Haslam at 71 Ewart Road Forest Fields Nottingham.

Military history

Gunner John Ashley Burton enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 14th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery he died of wounds on 25th November 1917 he is buried at Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery,
