George Henry Foster Branston was born in 1894 at Nottingham, he was the son of Samuel a mechanic and his first wife the late Helena Branston née Foster and the brother of Connie, Gerty, Mabel Dolores and Samuel Branston.
His father Samuel was born in 1864 at Northampton, his mother Helena Foster was born in 1865 at Madras, India, she died in 1909 at Nottingham, she was 44 yrs old, they were married on 1st October 1885 at Nottingham, they had 5 children.
Following his mothers death his father went onto marry Ellen Harris, they were married on 16th April 1910 at St Mary's Church, Nottingham, she brought two children to their marriage, Claude born 1894 and Grace born 1900.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 96 Westwood Road Sneinton Nottingham, Samuel 47 yrs is a mechanic, he is living with his second wife Ellen 47 yrs and their children, George 17 yrs a lace mender, Connie 14 yrs a hosiery worker, Gerty10 yrs, Mabel 8 yrs and Samuel 3 yrs, and Claude Haris 17 yrs a town clerk and Gracie Harris 11 yrs of age.
Private George Branston attested on 29th November 1915 at Manchester, giving his address as City Hotel, Longmill Gate, Manchester, he was 22 yrs and 3 months old, he was a hotel billiards marker and his next of kin was his father Samuel of 96 Westwood Road, Sneinton Dale, Nottingham, he was posted to the reserves. Mobilised for war on 8th February 1916 he was initially posted with the service number 19978 into the Shropshire Light Infantry.
He embarked from Southamptom on 28th October 1916 disembarking at Rouen, France the folowing day. He was posted to the 10th battalion Cheshire Regiment. he was killed in action on 11th August 1917, he is buried at Brandhoek New Military Cemetery
