Clarence Baines Willbond was born on 6th August 1898 at Nottingham, he was the son of George Baines Willbond a weight and measures inspector and his second wife Elizabeth Willbond née Chapman and the brother of Cecilia, Albert, Walter, Forester, Thomas, Harold and May Beatrice Willbond.

His father George Baines Willbond was born in 1839 at Nottingham, he died in 1908 at Nottingham he was 71 yrs old, his mother Elizabeth Chapman was born in 1859 at Thurgarton, she died in 1913 aged 64 yrs, they were married on 8th February 1880 at St Marks Church, Nottingham, they went on to have 11 children.

His fathers first marriage was to Elizabeth Hunt born 1849 in Ireland she died in 1878 at Tipperary she was aged 29 yrs, they were married on 6th August 1867 in Cork, they had 5 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 2 Ryehill Terrace Ryehill Street, Nottingham, Elizabth Willbond is 53 yrs a widow , she is living with her children, Harold 20 yrs a plumber, Beatrice 17 yrs an umbrella maker, Clarence12 yrs a scholar, and Cecelia 28 yrs a domestic helper.

Military history

Private Clarence Bains Willbond enlisted at Nottingham he initially served with the service number 3475 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, later transferring to the Machine uns Corps, 205th Coy Machine Gun Corps (Infantry) he was killed in action on 6th November 1917,

Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged), 28 November 1917: ‘Willbond. Killed in action November 6th 1917, Private Clarence Willbond, MGC, aged 19, youngest son of the late Geo. Willbond. Brothers, sisters.’
