Family history

George Wells was born in 1887 at Nottingham, he was the son of Thomas George a coal dealer and Flora Wells née Higgins of 159 Wilford Road Nottingham.

His father Thomas Goerge was born in 1864 at Beeston, his mother Flora Higgins was born in 1868 at Radford, Nottingham, they were married on 13th May 1885 at St John's Church, Leenside, Nottingham, they went on to have 5 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census his parents and siblings were living at 13a Cremorne Street, Nottingham, George 47 yrs is a coal dealer, he is living with his wife Flora 43 yrs and their children, Albert 16 yrs a fitters apprentice and GladysMay 12 yrs of age a scholar.

He was the husband of Hilda Taylor (born 9th November 1889 Bulwell) they were married on 25th December 1909 at St Nicholas Church, Nottingham, they had the following children, Flora Marjorie Elizabeth born 14th October 1910, George Norman born 15th June 1914 and Hilda Joyce born 19th September 1919 the family lived at 3 Ealing Avenue, Vernon Road, Basford, Nottingham.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 2 Selina Terrace Rupert Street Meadows Nottingham, George 24 yrs is a carter he is living with his wife Hilda 23 yrs of age.

commencing 5th May 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 29 shillings and 7 pence a week.

Military history

Driver George Wells enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 112th Bty 24th Bde, Royal Field Artillery, he died on 23rd October 1918 of acute bronchitis and is buried at Abbeville Communal Cemetery Extension
