Percy Smith was born in 1892 at Nottingham, he was the son of Arthur Edwin a cotton porter and Annie Maria Smith née Golding of 9 Mary Terrace Crocus Street Meadows Nottingham.

His father Arthur Edwin Smith was born in 1864 at Nottingham, his mother Annie Maria Golding was born in 1861 at Poplar, London, they were married in 1887 at Nottingham, they had 3 children,

In the 1911 census the family are living at 7 Newthorpe Street, Nottingham, Arthur 47 yrs is a cotton porter, he is living with his wife Annie 50 yrs a cotton winder and their children, Frederick 23 yrs a sinkers buffer in the iron trade, Percival 18 yrs an electrical engineers porter and Arthur 12 yrs a scholar.

Military history

Private Percy Smith enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 16th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 20th September 1917 in France, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot memorial, Belgium.
