Family history

Walter Harold Savage was born in 1886 at Milverton Warwickshire, he was baptised on 23rd April 1891 at All Saints Church, Warwick along with two of his siblings, Geoerge and Florence, he was the son of the late William a stonemason and the late Mary Jane Careless,

His father William was born in 1851 at Emscote, Warwickshire, he died in 1900 aged 49 yrs, his mother Mary Jane Careless was born in 1854 at Bedford, she died in 1910 aged 56 yrs, they were married in 1874 at Bedford, they went on to have 13 children.

His next of kin was his brother Frederick William Savage of 2 Hartford Street Meadows Nottingham.

Military history

Lance Corporal Walter Harold Savage enlisted on 20th August 1904 at Warwick, giving his age as 18 years and he was a labourer. He served with the 2nd battalion Worcestershire Regiment, he landed in France on12th August 1914 and was promoted to Lance Corporal on 29th April 1915, he was reported missing in action on 16th May 1915 at Richebourg and later confirmed killed in action on that date, having no known grave his name is commemroated on the Le Touret Memorial
