James Walter Morton was born in 1898 at Nottingham, he was the son of Harry a joiner and Florence Morton née Hibbs of 54 Traffic Street Meadows Nottingham.

His father Harry was born in 1874 at Leeds, his mother Florence Hibbs was born in 1873 at Nottingham, they were married in 1893 at Nottingham, they went on to have 6 children.

In the 1911 census the family were living at 2 Franchise Street, Westminster Street, Nottingham, Harry 37 yrs is a joiner he is living with his wife Florence 38 yrs a sewing machinsist they are living with their children, Florence 15 yrs an errand girl, Walter 12 yrs a scholar, Winnie 9 yrs, Dorothy 4 yrs and Harry 2 years of age.

Military history

Air Mechanic 3rd class James Walter Morton served with the 215th Sqdn Royal Air Force, he died of a skull fracture on 24th December 1918, he is buried at Longuenesse (St. Omer) Souvenir Cemetery
