Wilfred Thomas Lorton was born on 6th October 1888 at Yardley, Worcestershire, he was the son of Richard William Lorton a gun stocker and his second wife Ada Lorton née Byfield.
His father Richard William was born in 1846 at Whitechapel, Middlesex, his mother Ada Byfield was born in 1859 at Aston, Birmingham, they were married in 1884 at King's Norton, Staffordshire, they had a further child, Ivy Gladys born 1899 at Southwark, London.
His fathers first wife was Ellen Jane Gumbley born 1847 Aston, she died in 1882 she was 35 yrs of age, they were married on 27th December 1869 at St Peters Church, Aston, Warwickshire they had 4 children, Ada born 1870, Martha born 1876,Henry born 1877 and Carolins born 1880.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 25 Knowle Road, Sparkenhill, Birmingham. Richard 65 yrs is a gun stocker, he is living with his wife Ada 52 yrs and his children, Caroline 31 yrs a cigar maker, Wilfred Thomas 22 yrs a commercial clerk, and Ivy Gladys 12 yrs a scholar.
Wilfred Thomas was the husband of Mabel Lorton (born 1890) of 1 Clumber Road West Bridgford Nottingham his pension record card shows that his widow later moved to Sydney Australia,
Private Wilfred Thomas Lorton attested on 24th November 1915 aged 27 yrs and 1 month old, he was mobilised for war on 17th March 1916 at Ashton under Lyme, he served with the 11th battalion Manchester Regiment, he landed in France on 25th April 1917, he died of wounds on 20th October 1918 he is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery
