Family history

Ernest Arthur King was born in 1889 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Charles a hosiery frame work knitter and Jane King née Deavill and the brother of Florence, James, William, Gertrude and Frances King of 20 Ashfield Road, Sneinton, Nottingham,

His father Charles King was born 1859 at Nottingham, he died in 1908 at Nottingham he was 48 yrs old. his mother Jane Deavill was born in 1855 at Beeston they were married in 1881 at Nottingham, they went on to have 6 children.

In the 1901 census the family lived at 52 Waterway Street Meadows Nottingham.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 106 Kentwood Road, Jane King 56 yrs is a widow she is living with her children, James Charles 24 yrs a clerk in a lace warehouse, William 19 yrs an assistant confectioner, Gertrude 17 yrs a hosiery machinist, amd Frances 14 yrs a hosiery machinist.

In the same 1911 census we find that Ernest has joined the Army, he is serving in Hong Kong with the 1st battalion King's Own Yorkshire Lght Infantry, he is 21 yrs of age

Military history

Private Ernest Arthur King enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion Kings Own Yorkshire Light infantry, he was serving in Hong Kong with his regiment in the 1911 census. He was killed in action on 3rd October 1918 he is buried at Templeux-Le-Guerard British Cemetery
