Family history

Percy Charles Hopkinson was born in 1884 at Kinoulton, he was the son of Henry a clerk in a flour mill and Mary Ann Hopkinson née Brooks and the brother of Oscar, Albert and Leslie Hopkinson.

His father Henry was born in 1851 at Mansfield, his mother Mary Ann Brooks was born in 1850 at Kinoulton, Nottinghamshire, they were married on 19th June 1876 at All Saints Church, Cotgrave, Nottinghamshire, they had 8 children, sadly 3 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 34 Green Street Meadows Nottingham Henry 60 yrs is a clerk in a flour mill, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 61 yrs and their children, Oscar 22 yrs a mechanic, also living with them are two granchilden, Albert 4 yrs and Leslie 1 year of age.

Percy Charles married his first wife Ethel Grace Pounder (born 1884 at Nottingham, she died in 1910 she was 26 yrs ) they were married in 1904 at Nottingham, they had 4 children, Ethel May Pounder born 1905, Albert William Hopkinson born 1906 Mabel Hopkinson born 1908 and Leslie Hopkinson born 1909 died in 1911

He had further children with his second wife May Bird (born 23rd May 1890) they were married in 1912 at Nottingham, they had 3 children, Freda May born 22nd October 1912, Doris Muriel born 15th September 1913 and Gladys born 30th June 1918 they lived at 78 Sutton Street, Meadow Lane, Nottingham.

Commening 5th August 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence
a week for herself and 2 children.

His pension record card also shows his son Albert William guardian was his mother Mary Ann Hopkinson of 34 Green Street, Nottingham, she was awarded apension of 10 shillings a week with effect from 6th August 1918.

Military history

Private Percy Charles Hopkinson enlisted at Derby whilst residing at Nottingham he initially served with the service number 34497 in the Leicestershire Regiment, he was serving with the 59th Company Machine Gun Corps when he was killed in action on 30th November 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, France.
