Arthur Hewitt (junior) was born in 1879 at Nottingham, he was the son of Arthur Hewitt (senior) a printer and Eliza Hewitt née Sellars of Castle Gate, Nottingham,

His father Arthur (senior) was born in 1851 at Radford, his mother Eliza Sellars was born in 1850 at Billingborough, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1874 at Nottingham, they had 2 further children, Joseph born 1876 and Sarah born 1888.

In the 1911 census Arthur Hewitt (junior) has left the family home, he is boarding at 13 St John's Cottages,Nottingham, he is 33 yrs single and a labourer, he is boarding with Joseph Hollingworth 37 yrs a carter and his family.

He was the husband of Ada Sharp (born 24th November 1875 Nottingham) they were married in 1916 at Nottingham, they lived at 8 Milton Terrace London Road Nottingham.

Commncing 18th February 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military history

Private Arthur Hewitt enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 11th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he died of wounds on 23rd June 1917 in France he is buried at EtaplesMilitary Cemetery.
