Family history

Fred Hemstock was born in 1888 at Nottingham, he was the son of John a weslyan chapel keeper and Ann Hemstock née Gilbert of Willersley Street Nottingham.

His father John was born in 1861 at Flintham, Nottinghamshire, his mother Ann Gilbert was born in 1853 at Beeston, Nottingham, they were married in 1880 at Nottingham they had 5 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 26 Willersley Street, Nottingham, John 50 yrs is a chapel keeper, he is living with his wife Ann 58 yrs and their son Fred Hemstock 23 yrs a compositor.

Military history

Private Fred Hemstock enlisted at Notttingham, he served with the 1st battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 13th May 1916, he is buried at Bethune Town Cemetery
