Family history

Richard Oliver Hardwick was born on 2nd July 1890 at Nottingham, he was the son of Richard Charles Hardwick a hosiery manufacturer and the late Eliza Hardwick née Brown and the brother of Mabel and Florence Hardwick of Queens Arms, Queens Road, Nottingham.

His father Richard Charles was born in 1861 at Mansfield, his mother Eliza Brown was born in 1869 at Nottingham she died in 1914 at Nottingham, she was 45 yrs they were married in 1888 at Nottingham, they had 4 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 49 Wilford Grove The Meadows Nottingham. Richard senior 50 yrs a hosiery manufacturer is living with his wife Eliza 42 yrs and their children, Richard 20 yrs an assistant to his father, Mabel 22 yrs a hosiery mender and Forence 19 yrs a hosiery mender.

Military history

Gunner Richard Oliver Hardwick attested on 31st January 1916 giving his address as 49 Wilford Grove, Nottingham, he is 25 yrs and 6 months old, he is a factory manager,he was posted to the reserves and mobilised for war on 17th June 1916 he served with the 320th Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery he joined the expeditionary force on 20th April 1917..

Admitted to hospital suffering from nervious depression and was accidentally killed on 26th July 1917 when he jumped out of a window at The British Military Hospital, Versa on 26th July 1917 he later died on 28th July 1917 he is buried at Ravenna War Cemetery, Italy.
