Wilfred John Arthur Hall was born in 1892 at Walkley, Sheffield, he was the son of Arthur a commercial traveller and Annie Hall née Thorpe of 18 Selby Road, West Bridgeford, Nottingham.
His father Arthur was born in 1869, his mother Annie Thorpe was born in 1870 both were born in Sheffield. They were married in 1890 at Sheffield and went on to have 4 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family were living at 8 Lennox Avenue, Cheshire, Arthur 43 yrs is a commercial traveller, he is living with his wife Annie 41 yrs and their children, Wilfred John Arthur 20 yrs an assistant planner in a carpet warehouse, Lillian 18 yrs a shorthand typist and Edith Annie 11 yrs of age a scholar.
His sister Lilian died 5 February 1922 age 29. His father died 18 March 1945 aged 76 years and his mother on 5 December 1949 aged 79.
Private Wilfred John Arthur Hall enlisted at Wallasey, Cheshire, he served with the 16th battalion Cheshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 19th January 1916 he is buried at Tancrez Farm Cemetery Belgium (grave ref I.B.II)
Inscription on headstone, Bunny (St Mary) churchyard: '(Lilian, daughter of Arthur and Annie Hall) Also of Wilfred, her only brother, who laid down his life in France, Jany 19th 1916 aged 24 years. The Lord had need of them'
