Family history

Edward Frettingham was born in 1895 at Nottingham, he was the only son of John a leather finisher and Charlotte Angelina Frettingham née Pepperdine and the brother of Ada, Olive and Dorothy Frettingham of 95 Wilford Crescent East, Meadows, Nottingham.

His father John was born in 1851 at Beeston, his mother Charlotte Angelina Pepperdine was born in 1858 at Lincoln, they were married in 1880 at Lincoln, they had 6 children,

In the 1911 census the family at 48, Muskham Street, Meadows, Nottingham. John 59 yrs is a leather finisher, he is living with his wife Charlotte 53 yrs and their children, Ada 29 yrs a hat leather finisher, Olive 25 yrs a machinist, Edward 16 yrs a warehouse boy and Dorothy 14 yrs a scholar.

Military history

Private Edward Frettingham, enlisted at Tuxford, he served with the 24th Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps, He died in hospital of dysentery on 29th June 1917 at Mesopotamia, and is buried in Basra War Cemetery

Nottingham Evening Post, Roll of Honour, 10 July 1917: ‘Frettingham. Died in hospital, June 29th, from dysentery, Private Teddy Frettingham, RAMC, aged 22, only son of John and Lena Frettingham, 48, Muskham-street, Meadows, Nottingham.’
