Family history

Albert English was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son of Albert a plasterer and Lavinia English née Morely and the brother of May, Henry Edward, Clara, Ada, Lavinia and Leonard English.

His father Albert was born in 1876 at Leicester his mother Lavinia Morley was born in 1877 at Nottingham, they were married in 1896 at Nottingham, they went on to have 7 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 1 Earnshaw's Yard Nottingham Albert English was 35 yrs he is a plasterer he is living with his wife Lavinia 34 yrs and their 7 children, including Albert 14 yrs a firewood dealer.

Military history

Private Albert English enlisted at Newark on 27th July 1915 whilst residing at Nottingham, he served with the 1/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, landing in France on 4th March 1916, he was killed in action on 24th June 1916 whilst serving in the line at Foncquevillers, France. He is buried in Foncquevillers Military Cemetery (grave ref. I.F.26).
