Family history

Raymond Edwards was born in 1878 at Buckhurst Hill Essex, he was the son of Henry a merchant and the late Adeline Edwards née Skinner

His father Henry was born in 1845 at St Pancras, London, his mother Adelaide Skinner was born in 1841 at West Ham, she died in 1912 at Dover she was 69 yrs they were married on 5th June 1867 at St Marys Church, Leyton, West Ham, they went on to have 6 children,

In the 1911 census his parents and siblings were living at 73 London Lane, Bromley Henry 66 yrs a merchant is living with his wife Adelaide 68 yrs and their daughters Adelaide 41 yrs a spinster and Eleanor 35 yrs a spinster.

He was the husband of Ethel Mary Watson (born 26th June 1878 ) they were married on 25th September 1909 at Maldon, Esssex, they had 2 children, Gwendoline Mary born 15th October 1911 and John Raymond born 12th April 1917. they lived at 8 Scotch Street, Whitehaven and later lived at 'The Result' Whitehaven Cumberland.

In the 1911 census they are living at 95 Broad FieldRoad, Catford, London Raymond 32 yrs is a druggist clerk, he is living with his wife Ethel May 31 yrs

Commencing 12th August 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military history

Raymond Edwards enlisted on 10th December 1915 at Nottingham, giving his age as 38 yrs and 3 months, his address was The Croft 26 Davis Road, West Bridfgord,he was a druggist clerk/buyer his next of kin was his wife Ethelal Mary he was posted to the reserves,Mobilised on 1st May 1917, he served with the 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he landed in France on 16th October 1917 , he died of Nephritis on 6th February 1918 at 64 casualty clearing station he is buried in Mendinghem Military Cemetery, Belgium (grave ref IX/D/11).
