Harry East was born in 1899 at Nottingham, he was the son of Harry a carter and Sarah Ann East née Straw and the brother of Leonard, Florence Mabel, Elsie May and Albert East.

His father Harry was born in 1875 at Lincoln, his mother Sarah Ann Straw was born in 1872 at Ilkeston, they were married in 1897 at Nottingham, they had 6 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 17 Florence Street Nottingham, Harry 36 yrs is a carter he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 39 yrs and their children, Harry 12 yrs a scholar, Leonard 11 yrs a scholar, Florence Mabel 7 yrs of age, Elsie May 3 yrs and Albert 8 months old.

Military history

Private Harry East enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2nd battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 21st March 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial.
