Family history

William Clifford Dyment was born in Llancarfan, Glamorgan, he was baptised on 21st October 1888 at Llancarfan, Glamorgan, he was the son of the late Walter Henry Dyment a farmer and Sarah Ann Wescombe of Newport Monmouthshire.

His father Walter Henry was born in 1836 at Spaxton, Somerset, he died in 1903 at Abergavenny, he was 67 yrs old, his mother Sarah Ann Wescombe was born in St Micheal, Somerset, they were married on 20th June 1863 at Taunton, Somerset, they went on to have 11 children.

In the 1911 census William Clifford 22 yrs is a carpenter, he is living with his widowed mother Sarah Ann 68 yrs at 68 Stockton Road, Newport, Monmouthsire, they are living with his married sister Rosa Beatrice Polle 40 yrs and her husband Arther Evered Poole and their family.

William Clifford Dyment was the husband of Bessie Riding (born 1st March 1888) they were married in 1913 at Newport Monmouthsire, they lived at 7 Rectory Road West Bridgford Nottingham they had 2 children, Clifford Henry born 20th January 1914 and Irene Edna born 23rd August 1915.

Commencing 2nd December 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military history

Private William Clifford Dyment enlisted at Newport Monmouthshire, he served initially with the service number 287076 in the Royal Engineers he was killed in action on 22nd May 1918 whilst serving with the 17th battalion Lancashire Fusiliers and is buried at Varennes Military Cemetery, France.
