Family history

Albert Edward Dury was born in 1893 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Richard a railway goods guard and Sarah Dury née Whittaker, of 61 Kinglake Street, Nottingham.

His father Richard was born in 1853 at Byfield, Northamptonshire, his mother Sarah Whittaker was born in 1857 at Stapleford, Nottinghamshire, they were married on 8 th December 1874 at St Helens Church, Stapleford, they went on to have 12 children, sadly 1 was t die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family were living at 61 Kinglake Street, Nottingham, Richard 57 yrs is a goods train guard, he is living with his wife Sarah 54 yrs and their children, Mary Ann 31 yrs a hoseiry mender, Ernest 22 yrs an engine cleaner, Arthur Henry 20 yrs an apprentice turner, Albert Edward 17 yrs a railway porter, Herbert 15 yrs an apprentice joiner, Donard 13 yrs a scholar and Leonard 10 yrs of age.

Military history

Sergeant Albert Esward Dury enlisted at Settle, Yorkshire whilst residing at Nottingham, he served with the 10th battalion West Ridng Regiment, he was killed in action on 5th October 1916 he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial Pier and Face 6 A and 6 B.
