Family history

George Richmond Collier was born in 1880 at Edgbaston, Birmingham, he was the son of the late Richard Collier a wood turner later a hotel proprieter and Emille Collier née Hall of Birmingham.

His father Richard was born in 1842 at Birmingham, he died in 1909 at Birmingham aged 65 yrs, his mother Emille Hall was born in 1851 at Hamburg, Germany, they were married prior to 1877 they had 5 children.

George Richmond Collier was married to Elizabeth Gaved,(born 26th November 1886) they were married on 24th November 1915, at St Augustines Church, Birmingham. at this date he was 35 yrs of age and a clerk, he was living at 134 Poplar Ave, Edgbaston, his father Richard was deceased he was a hotel proprietor, his wife Emily Gaved was 29 yrs and lived at 18 Chawoerth Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham.

They lived at 18 Chaworth Road, West Bridgford, and had a son John Reginald born 23rd May 1916,

Commencing 8th April 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military history

Private George Richmond Collier initially enlisted on 22nd January 1901 at Warwick, he was was 20 yrs and 9 months old, he was posted to the 2nd battalion Imperial Yeomanry, he served in South Africa between 17th February 1901 and 27th August 1902, he returend to England and was discharged on 3rd September 1902 at Aldershot he was now 22 yrs and 3 months old, his discharge address was Grassington Road, Poplar Avenue, Edgbaston.

He was embodied at the outbreak of the war he enlisted at Birmingham, he served with the 8th battalion Gloucestershire regiment, he was killed in action on 20th September 1917. having no knon grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
