Henry Cecil Burton was born in 1886 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Frank Augustus Burton a farmer and Annette Burton née Hunt of Hardys Drive Gedling.
His father Frank Augustus Burton was born in 1841 at Basford, Nottingham, he died in 1900 in Nottingham, he was 59 yrs, his mother Annette Hunt was born in 1849 at Oakham, Rutland, they were married in 1877 at Nottingham, they had 6 children.
In the 1911 cenus his widwed mother was living at Hardys Drive, Gedling, Annie 65 yrs is a widow she is living with her children, Annie 31 yrs a teacher, Nora 27 yrs a typist, also living with the family is Ada Turton 14 yrs a servant.
In the same 1911 cenus Henry Cecil has left the family home, he is living at Intake Farm, Mansfield, he is shown as being 22 yrs he is a cowman he is lving with William Henry Shacklock 36 yrs a farmer and his family.
Private Henry Cecil Burton enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing in West Bridgford, he served with the 9th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 9th August 1915 he was killed in the battalion's first battle at Suvla Bay Gallipoli having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli.
