Robert Bradley was born in 1893 at Nottingham he was baptised on 22nd November 1893 at St John's Church, Leenside, Nottingham he was the son of the late Herbert a joiner and Elvina Bradley née Cook of 12 Belvoir Terrace Bunbury Street Nottingham.

His father Herbert was born in 1858 at Nottingham, he died in 1902 aged 44 yrs, his mother Elvina Cook was born in 1861 at Nottingham, they were married in 1878 at Nottingham, they had 5 children.

Military history

Private Robert Bradley enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he went to France on 29th June 1915. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 21, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

Commemorated: Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.

His pension record card shows his claimant as Elvina Bradley 12 Belvoir Terrace, Bunbury Street, Meadows (his mother) it also shows Miss Eliza Clarke of 4 Little John Strret, Peas Hill Road, Nottingham as guardian of his illegitimate child
