Family history

Noel Edgar Basby was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son of William John a wholesale druggist secretary and Hannah Mary Barsby née Attenborough he was the brother of Herbert Edward, Marie Olga, William Arthur, Roy Charles, Leslie and Tansy Mary Barsby.

His father was born in 1874 at Nottingham, he died on 1912 aged 38 yrs, his mother Hannah Mary Attenborough was born in 1875 at Nottingham, they were married in 1893 at Nottingham, they went on to have 8 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 14, Charnwood Grove, West Bridgford, Nottingham William John 37 yrs a wholesale druggist secreatery, he is living with his wife Hannah Mary 36 yrs and their 7 children, including Noel Edgar 14 yrs an a lace warehouse office boy.

Military history

Lance Corporal Noel Edgar Barsby 'enlisted at Nottingham. he served with A Company 2/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he went to France on 28th June 1915 and was killed in action, 21st March 1918, aged 21, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
