Family history

John Robert Ashwell was born in 1893 at Nottingham, he was the son of William a silk dyer and Elizabeth Kezia Ashwell née Brown of Kirkwhite Street, Nottingham.

His father William was born in 1846 at Nottingham, he died in 1910 at Nottingham aged 64 yrs, his mother Elizabeth Brown was born in 1860 at Quern, Leicestershire, they were maried in 1878 at Nottingham, they went on to have 7 children.

In 1911 he was living with an aunt Polly Ashwell at 5 Muskham Street Nottingham he is 19 yrs a nephew single and a butcher.

Military history

Gunner John Robert Ashwell enlisted at Nottingham, he served with 'D' Bty 152nd Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, he died of wounds on 24th April 1917 he is buried at Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun, France.
