Family history

George Herbert Weston was born in 1898 at Nottingham, he was the son of George a mining labourer above ground and Kate Weston née Corthorn of 5 Eland Cottages Eland Street Basford Nottingham.

His father George was born in 1865 at Nottingham, his mother Kate Corthorn was born in 1873 at Nottingham, they were married in 1893 at Nottingham, they had 3 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood, their other surviving child was Leonard Weston born 1895 at Nottingham.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 41 Church Street, Basford, George 46 yrs a mining labourer above ground is living with his wife Kate 38 yrs and their 2 sons Leonard 16 yrs a coal hewer and George Herbert 14 yrs a mould helper at the local foundry.

Military history

Private George Herbert Weston enlisted at Nottingham whist residing at New Basford, he served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 13th March 1917, he is buried at Rossignol Wood Cemetery, Hebuterne, France.

His brother Leonard Weston served with the service number 46770 in the Northumberland Fusiliers, he was discharged from the Army on 24th April 1918 suffering from TB andnephritis
