Richard Stancill was born in 1891 at Nottinmgham, he was the son of Richard a collier and Hannah Selina Stancill née Warner of 4 Gambles Yard Main Street Bulwell Nottingham.

His father Richard Stancill was born in 1853 at Mansfield, his mother Hannah Selina Warner was born in 1858 at Kenton, Suffolk, they were married on 9th May 1891 at St John's Church, Bulwell they had 2 further children, Margaret born 1893 and Minnie born 1897.

In the 1911 census Richard has left the family home he is a boarder, he is living at New Stanton by Dale, Nottinghamshire, he is 20 yrs an iron foundry labourer, he is living with Hannah Hall 52 yrs , head of the household, married, and her children,

Military history

Private Richard Stancill enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Stapleford, he served with the 2/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 2nd December 1917 aged 26 yrs, he is buried at Orival Wood Cemetery, Flesquieres, France. Plot 2. Row B. Grave 36.
