Family history

Harold Henry Smith was born in 1893 at Bulwell he was the son of the late Charles Henry a coal miner hewer and Mary Adeliza Smith née Spencer of Bulwell Nottingham.

His father was born in 1856 at Bulwell, he died in 1914 at Nottingham, aged 58 yrs, his mother Mary Adeliza Spencer was born in 1859 at Cropwell Bishop, Nottinghamshire, they were married in 1879 at Bulwell, they had 6 children.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 43 Upper Lime Street, Bank, Bulwell, Charles Henry 56 yrs is a coal miner hewer he is living with his wife Mary Adeliza 52 yrs and their children, Hetty 28 yrs a dress maker, Arthur Victor 24 yrs a postman, Eva 22 yrs a machinist, Harold Henry 19 yrs a shop assistant and Maggie 17 yrs a folder.

Military history

Private Harold Henry Smith enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/5th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he died of wounds on 30th May 1917, at No 47 General Hospital, he is buried at Mont Huon Military Cemetery Le Treport
