William Sharpe (junior) was born in 1897 at Bulwell he was baptised on 19th May 1897 at St John's Church, Bulwell he was the son of William Sharpe (senior) a brick yard labourer and Eliza Sharpe née Ward of 1 Anchor Terrace Main Street Bulwell Nottingham.
His father William Sharpe (senior) was born in 1867 at Carlton, his mother Eliza Ward was born in 1866 at Ripley, they were married on 25th December 1890 at St John's Church, Bulwell, they went on to have 10 children, sadly 3 were to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 17 Bradford Street, Bulwell William Sharpe (senior) 44 yrs is a brickyard labourer, he is living with his wife Eliza 45 yrs and their 7 children including William Sharpe (junior) 14 yrs a coal miner deputies boy.
Private William Sharpe enlisted at Hucknal;l whilst residing at Bulwell, he served with the 1st battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 13th February 1917, having no known grave his name is recorded on the Arras Memorial.
