Family history

Charles William Scotney was born in 1890 at Hanthorpe, Lincolnshire, he was the son of John Joseph a wheelwright and joiner and his second wife Louisa Scotney née Hearn of 29 Repton Road Bulwell Nottingham.

His father John Joseph was born in 1861 at Buckminster, his mother Louisa Hearn was born in 1861 at Kettleborough they were married on 8th February 1887 at St Leodegaruis Church Basford, they went on to have 9 children.

His fathers first marriage was to Emily Bugg born 1860, died 1886) they were married in 1879 at Bourne, Lincolnshire, they had 4 children.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 29 Repton Road, Bulwell, John Joseph Scotney 50 yrs a joiner he is living with his second wife Louisa Hearn 48 yrs and their 7 children, including Charles William Scotney 19 yrs a draper.

Military history

Bombadier Charles William Scotney enlisted at Nottingham, he served with 'A' Battery, 152nd Brigade Royal Field Artillery, he died of wounds on 21st August 1916, he is buried at Bethune Town Cemetery
