Family history

Richard Harris was born in 1884 at Sneinton, Nottingham, he was the son of the late John Harris a milk sellar and the late Annie Eliza Harris née Bird of 25 Church Street, Old Basford, Nottingham.

His father John was born in 1841 at Nottingham, he died in 1904 aged 63 yrsa, his mother Annie Eliza Bird was born in 1847 at Leicester she died in 1887 at Nottingham she was 40 yrs of age, they were married in 1866 at Nottingham, they went on to have 8 children.

Richard Harris married Emma Seville Blunt (born 10th August 1885) they were married on 8th October 1906 at Rotherham Registry Office, they lived at 70 Back Walton Gardens, Rotherham.

On 5th June 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 10 shillings a week.

Military history

Private Richard Harris enlisted on 2nd April 1902 at Nottingham, giving his age as 18 yrs and 6 months he was a labourer, he was posted to the Leicestershire Regiment and joined them at Leicestr on 7th April 1902. He was mobilised on 5th August 1914, and landed in France on 9th November 1914. He was wounded on 26th November 1914, he returned to England for treatment. He embarked from Southampton on 26th January 1915 landing in France. He was killed in action on 25th September 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on he Loods Memorial.
