Family history

Edward Henry Darby was born in 1879 at Grimsby, he was the son of the late Charles James Darley and Mary Darley néé Sturdy of Grimsby.

His father Charles James was born in 1846 at Hull, he died in 1891 at Sculcoates, Yorkshire, he was 45 yrs of age, his mother Mary Sturdy was born in 1842 also at Hull she died in 1898 at Grimsby she was 56 yrs they were married on 28th April 1878 at the Methodist Church, Freman Street, Grimsby , they went on to have two further children, Edward born 1880 Grimsby and Robert Sturdy b1883 at Grimsby.

Edward Henry was the husband of Susannah Askew (born 16th February 1880) they were married on 26th December 1914 at St Matthias Church, Sneinton, Nottingham, they lived at 18 Ingram Road Bulwell Nottingham.

Commencing 29th April 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military history

Private Edward Henry Darley enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number M/301920 in the Army Service Corps, he later served with the 7th battalion Yorkshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 17th October 1917 and is buried at Dozinghem Military Cemetery
