William Levi Clifford- Hill was born in 1898 at Brinsley he was the son of Thomas a coal miner and Emily Clifford-Hill née Langton of 27 Lime Street Commercial Road Bulwell Nottingham.
His father Thomas was born in 1869 at Nottingham, his mother Emily Langton was born in 1873 at Northampton, they were married on 1st February 1896 at St James Church, Brinsley, Emily brought two children to the marriage Betsy Langton born 1893 and Ada Langton born 1895, they went on to have 5 further children.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 4 Holland Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham, Thomas 43 yrs is a coal miner he is living with his wife Emily 36 yrs and their children, Bestsy 18 yrs a cotton winder, William Levi 13 yrs a cotton doffer, Sarah Lizzie 10 yrs, Florence 8 yrs, Phyllis 4 yrs and Thomas 2 yrs of age.
Private William Levi Clifford-Hill enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, He was killed in action, 30th May 1916, aged 17, during a German raid of the British line at Croix Barber, France.
