Family history

Hugh Clark was born in 1893 at Basford, Nottinghamshire, he was the son of Walter a motor man and Sarah Ann Clark née Spencer and the brother of Alice May, Daisy Maud, Lily, Ivy and Frank Clark.

His father Walter was born in 1861 at Stotfield, Bedfordshire, his mother Sarah Ann Spencer was born in 1867 at Nocton, Lincolnshire they were married in 1887 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration centre, they went on to have 6 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived 69 Broomhill Road Bulwell Nottingham Walter 50 yrs a motor man, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 44 yrs they are living with their children, Alice May 23 yrs a blouse machinist, Daisy Maud 21 yrs a blouse machinist, Lily 20 yrs a blouse machinist, Hugh 18 yrs a lace bleacher, Ivy 15 yrs a lace pattern girl and Frank 7 yrs of age.

Military history

Private Hugh Clark enlisted at Nottingham, on the 8th December 1915, giving his address as 69 Broomhill Road, Bulwell, he was 22 yrs and 11 months old, he was a wollen hosiery miller, he served with the 1/4th battalion East Yorkshire Regiment. He embarked from Folkstone on 1st January 1917 landing the same day at Boulogne, he was posted to the East Yorkshire regiment on 25th January 1917 he was killed in action on 11th September 1918, he is buried at Chauny Communal Cemetery British Extension
