Family history

James Frederick Chapman was born in 1895 at Nottingham, he was the son of Henry a lace machine fitter and Hannah Chapman née Barker and the brother of Horace Chapman.

His father Henry was born in 1861 at Beeston, his mother Hannah Barker was born in 1870 at Riddings Derbyshire, they were married on 20th February 1892 at All Saints Church, Riddings, Derbyshire, they went on to have 4 children, sadly 2 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 152 Ewart Road Basford Nottingham Henry 50 yrs is a lace machine fitter, heis living with his wife Hannah 41 yrs and their children, James Frederick 16 yrs a grocers errand boy and Horace 14 yrs a grocers errand boy.

Military history

Private James Frederick Chapman enlisted a Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 46292 in the 9th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he transferred to (28312) 48th Coy Labour Corps and was killed in action on 18th August 1917, he is buried at Outtersteene Communal cemetery extension, Bailleul, France
