Family history

Albert Burrows was born in 1896 at Nottingham, he was the son of Charles Burrows a coal miner and Mary Elizabeth Burrows née Kinston and the brother of Sidney, George, Lucy and Doris Burrows of 275 Commercial Road, Bulwell, Nottingham.

His father Charles was born in 1871 at Nottingham, his mother Mary Elizabeth Kinston was born in 1875 at Bulweell, they were married on 9th November 1895 at St John's Church, Buwell, they had 9 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 1 Back Cottages Road Bulwell Nottingham Mary Elizabeth 36 yrs married is living with her children, Albert 15 yrs no occupation listed, Sidney 9 yrs of age, George 5 yrs, Lucy 3 years and Doris 10 months old. Charles is not at this address on the night of the census.

Military history

Private Albert Burrows enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 63rd Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps, he was killed in action on 21st March 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial.
