Family history

William Bannister was born in 1878 at South Kensington London, he was the son of the late Thomas and Eliza (later Stone) Bannister of 83 Austin Street Bulwell Nottingham.

His father Thomas died prior to 1908, his mother Eliza was born in 1845 Lullington, Derbyshire. his mother went on to remarry James Stone in 1908 in Nottingham.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 83 Austin Street, Bulwell, James Stone 68 yrs is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Eliza Stone 66 yrs and their children, William Bannister 34 yrs an iron furnace keeper and Edith Stone 23 yrs a hosiery mender.

Military history

Private William Bannister enlisted at Leeds he served witht e 10th battalion West Yorkshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 19th September 1918, aving no known gave his name is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial.
