Thomas Wilfred Henshaw was born in 1888 at Tythby Grange, he was the son of Richard Henshaw, a farmer, and his second wife the late Anne Henshaw née Reynolds of 4 Porchester Villas Bingham Nottinghamshire.
His father Richard was born in 1843 at Weston upon Trent, Derbyshire, his mother Anne Reynolds was born in 1842 at Warsop,Nottinghamshire she died on 23rd November 1890 atTythby Grange, she was 38 yrs old, they were married on 3rd September 1867 at Ault Hucknall, Derbyshire, they went on to have 2 children, Robert Reynnolds Henshaw born 1885 and Thomas Wilfred born 1888 both were born at Tythby Grange.
Richard married his first wife Sarah Eliza Stevenson in 1870 their marriage was recorded in the Ashby De La Zouch registration district, Sarah was born in 1851 at narestone, Leicestershire, she died in 1875 atShardlow she was 24 yrs old, they went on to have 4 children, Alice born 1871, Richard born 1873, Henry Born 1874 and Ethel born 1875.
In 1911 they lived at Tythby Grange, Nottinghamshire, Richard Henshaw 68 yrs is a farmer, he is living with his sons Robert Reynolds, 26 yrs a farmers son working on his fathers farm and Thomas Wilfred 23 yrs a farmers son working on his farm, also livng at the address are 4 servants.
Lance Corporal Thomas Wilfred Henshaw enlisted in Nottingham, he served with the 3rd battalion Grenadier Guards, he was killedin action on 15th September 1916, he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial
His brother, Corporal Robert Reynolds Henshaw, South Notts Hussars, died on 27 May 1918 when the troop shop SS Leasowe Castle was sunk by enemy submarine in the Mediterranean.
