Harry Singleton was born in 1886 at Nottingham, he was the son of Solomon Singleton a gas works coalporter and Mary Singleton née Wright and the brother of Elsie Mary, Mabel Annie and Rose Hannah Singleton.
His father Soloman was born in 1861 at Nottingham, his mother Annie Wright was born in 1863 also in Nottingham, they were married on 3rd December 1883 at Lenton Priory Church, they went on to have 8 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 22 Pleasant Row Hyson Green Nottingham, Soloman 50 yrs is a gas works coal porter, he is living with his wife Mary 48 yrs and their children,Harry 25 yrs a beam maker, Elsie Mary 19 yrs a lace hand, Mable Annie 15 yrs a lace hand and Rose Hannah 13 yrs a lace hand.
Private Harry Singleton enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Hyson Green, he served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 14th March 1917 and is buried at Gommecourt British Cemetery No.2, Hebuterne, France. Plot 4. Row H. Grave 5.
