Edward Ernest Duffin was born in 1890 at Leicester, he was the 27 year-old son of Harriet Annie Dickinson, of 14, Sutton Street, Hexthorpe, Doncaster, and the late Edward Joseph Duffin a lace maker.
His father Edward Joseph was born in 1870 at Nottingham, he died in 1915 aged 45 yrs, his mother Harriett Annie Edgson was born in 1871 at Leicester, they were married on 3rd April 1888 at St Matthias Church, Sneinton, they had 3 further children daughters Emeline Edith born 1889, Florence born 1892 and Ada b1893.
His mother remaried on 19th October 1901 at St WIlfreds Church, Kirkby in Ashfield. to Tom Robert Davison born 1877 at Manningham, Yorkshire.
In the 1911 census his step father is living at 38 Cambridge Street, Mansfield, Tom Robert 34 years is a fitter in an iron foundry he is shown as a widower and is living with a house keeper, Emily Jane Brammer 29 yrs.
Sgt. Edward Ernest Duffin, enlisted at Doncaster whilst residing at Hyson Green and served with the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards. He landed in France on 9th January 1915 and died of wounds on 27th November 1917. He is buried in Orival Wood Cemetery, Flesquieres.
