Family history

James Car was born in 1885 at Stockton On Tees, he was the son of James an insurance agent and Frances Carr née Trevor and the brother of Albert, Frances Jane, Charlotte, Robert, Adelaide, John William and Edith Mary Carr.

His father James was born in 1862 at Norham Northumberland, his mother Frances Trevor was born in 1859 at Durham, they were married in 1884 their marriage was recorded in the Middlesborough registration district, they went on to have 9 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 34 Noel Street Nottingham. James 49 yrs is an insurance company agent, he is living with his wife Frances 52 yrs and their 9 children including James 25 yrs a clerk.

He was the husband of Hilda Jane (née Kerry) Carr of 23 Sydenham Road Stockton on Tees, they were married in 1915 their marriage was recorded in the Chipping Norton registration district. .

Military history

Second Lieutenant James Carr enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 296th Brigade Royal Field Artillery, he was reported missing on 21st March 1918 and subsequently listed as killed in action on that date. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.

Nottingham Evening Post dated 17th March 1919 : -

ROLL OF HONOUR. “Sec.-Lieut. James Carr, R.F.A., the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. James Carr, of Noel-street, Nottingham, who has been missing since March 21st, 1918, has now been presumed by the Army Council to have died on or since that date.”
