Reginald Harry Brown was born on 17th April 1898 at Long Eaton, he was baptised on 22nd May 1899 st St Marys Church Stockport, he was the son of Henry Edward Banks and Louise Ann Brown née Proctor at the time of Reginalds baptism the family were living at 9 Lower Brook Street, Long Eaton.

He was the brother of Louise Lavinia and Wilfred Harold Brown. In 1911 they lived at 40 Albert Avenue Nottingham Henry Edward 36 yrs is a tailor, Louise Ann is 34 yrs, they are living with their children, Reginald Harry 12 yrs , Louie Lavinia 12 yrs and Wilfred Harold 8 yrs.

His father Henry Edward Banks Brown was born in 1875 at Hanley Staffordshire, his mother Louise Ann Proctor was born in 1877 at Stockport, Cheshire, they were married on 18th October 1897 at St Laurence Church, Long Eaton, they had 4 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.

Military history

Private Reginald Harry Brown enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 8th battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, he was killed in action, having no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.

Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged), 21 July 1917: ‘Brown. Reported missing June 10th now reported killed July 10th, Private RH (Harry) Brown, KOYLI, age 19, eldest son of Mr and Mrs H Brown, 107 Birkin Avenue. Mother, father, sister Vinnie, brother Wilfred.’
