Wilfred Briggs was born in 1892 at Hyson Green, Nottingham, he was the son of John a an assurance agent for Pearl Assurance, and Elizabeth Briggs née Shaw and the brother of Arthur, Mabel and Ivy Briggs of 180 Burford Road, Hyson Green, Nottingham.
His father John was born in 1872 at Chesterfield, his mother Elizabeth Shaw was born in 1872 at Brampton, Derbyshire, they were married in 1892 at Chesterfield, they had 4 children.
In 1911 they lived at 5 Plimsoll Street Nottingham John 39 yrs is an assurance agent, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 39 yrs and their children, Wilfred 18 yrs an art wicker, Arthur 16 yrs a hosiery worker, Mable 11 yrs and Ivy 10 yrs of age.
Private Wilfred Briggs enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/7th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 25th August 1916 and is buried at Erquinghem-Lys Churchyard Extension
